A fridge trailer keeps stock chilled. A freezer trailer keeps it frozen. Choosing the right one depends on what you are storing.
Fridge trailer: chilled food and drink
Use a fridge trailer for anything that should be cold but not frozen:
- Prepared food and buffets
- Dairy, eggs and cooked meats
- Fresh meat, fish and vegetables
- Drinks and bar stock
- Cakes and desserts
In the UK, chilled food should be kept at 8°C or below by law. The Food Standards Agency recommends 5°C or below. Our food safety guide covers this in more detail.
Freezer trailer: frozen food and ice
Use a freezer trailer for stock that must stay solid:
- Ice and bagged ice
- Ice cream and frozen desserts
- Frozen meat, fish and ready meals
- Frozen catering ingredients
Frozen food is normally stored at -18°C or colder.
When you need both
Many events use one of each. A wedding might need a fridge trailer for food and drinks plus a freezer trailer for ice. A festival bar often needs both.
If you are unsure, tell us what you plan to store and how many people you are catering for. We will suggest what to hire.
